sketchbook stuff

Another session of chemo today.  My 2nd of 12.  It went really well and as usual, I feel just slightly queasy tonight.  The fatigue and nausea will hit me on Saturday and Sunday.  It’s fairly predictable.  Anyway, I drew most of this stuff will sitting at the clinic, waiting for my 2.5 hour infusion.  It seems like the best way I’ve found to pass the time and even to enjoy it.  I don’t know why I drew the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz or a dog as a gunslinger.  Some of the heads I drew reminded me of Easter Island so I put a couple of photos in.  I don’t know what any of the imagery means.  I wonder if the gunslinger says something about “fighting back” at cancer.  I had fun and found it very relaxing.

pizza man

Here are some drawings that Joe Farnham and I did together.  I scanned the clip art from a pizza box into Kid Pix and reworked the drawing a little, just for laughs.  (Kid Pix was a very crude but fun drawing program for kids that had just come out.)  Joe saw what I had done and tried some of his own.  It came about that spontaneously.  We were mostly trying to amuse each other by reworking the pizza man into new characters or scenes.  Of the 50 or 60 we did, these are some of my favorites.  Drawing can be such a solitary activity but the collaboration on these made it so much more fun.

just another cat

I don’t know why so many of my drawings turn into cats and dogs.  I drew this really small on paper and finished it in PhotoShop.  I like the rough black line the cat is drawn with.

Here’s a piece of bread at the beach

Just making some toast.  I drew this years ago.  Always liked it.

diving board

This drawing came up in conversation tonight.  It sort of came out of my imagination spontaneously and I didn’t give it much thought but new it was important.  It seems to convey a feeling of optimism.

Dancing Makes You Smarter

This is pretty cool.  After the performances which included my friend Peter dancing a tango, he and his daughter Sophia took to the floor and just had some fun, dancing with each other and making things up as they went.  It was very spontaneous and a pleasure to watch.
